Yoga poses (asanas) tone the whole body. They strengthen bones and muscles; increase flexibility, stamina and concentration; and improve posture and breathing. This physical well-being has a calming and clarifying effect on the mind. When we are physically strong and emotionally resilient, we are better able to ride the ups and downs of everyday life with grace and equanimity.
Established in 1985, Raleigh Yoga Center is the Triangle’s oldest yoga studio. We attribute our longevity to the professional training and experience of our dedicated teachers, who are committed to the highest standards of yoga study and practice. We offer a quiet, noncompetitive environment and keep our classes small to ensure individual attention.
Our priority is to keep you safe by emphasizing correct body alignment and careful composition of poses with an awareness of breath. Our classes introduce yoga in an orderly, progressive manner through a diversity of poses. We use props (blocks, straps, blankets) to tailor the poses to suit your capabilities. Props allow you to explore safely, improve at your own pace and maximize the benefits of each pose. We hold the poses to increase stamina and concentration and to allow time for physiological changes to occur. We focus on the breath to quiet and steady the mind. Our teaching style is strongly influenced by the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar, one of the foremost teachers in the world.
